The National
Trouble Will Find Me [Explicit]
“Graceless”
one which bubbles with gentle menace before its full chorus lets off the weight a little. But that’s just the first half; at around its midway point, the centrepiece of Trouble Will Find Me (to my ears, anyhow) kicks out, as Berninger asserts: “It’s the side effects that save us.” What follows is the best example of the National’s talents in 12 years of recording; a repeated line, “There’s a science to walking through windows”, walks in innocuously, ambiguous and distant, but after three turns, Bryan Devendorf executes the most gorgeous ripple, and Berninger completes the thought: “There’s a science to walking through windows without you.”
