George Michael

George Michael has spoken after his life-threatening bout of pneumonia to reveal that he's had his "best Christmas" ever this year.

The singer, who gave a press conference last week in which he confirmed that doctors in Austria had spent three weeks keeping him alive and described his condition as "touch and go", took to Twitter to assure fans he was fully on the mend.

In a series of posts written on December 26, he said:

Best Christmas I can remember, surrounded by the people I love. And knowing that Xmas could have been very different this year for everyone at that table.
He went on to add: "As it was we stuffed and laughed ourselves silly. I'm such a lucky man! I hope you all had a great one."

Michael, who had previously told reporters that he was unable to speak for extended periods of time as he recovered from his illness, also said that his problems with his voice would only be "temporary".

It was reported last week (December 22) that he been released from hospital and would be flying home to London. It was initially thought that although Michael's condition was improving, he was unlikely to be out of hospital in time for Christmas.

Michael was admitted to Vienna's AKH hospital last month after ill health forced him to cancel a gig in the Austrian capital. The illness forced Michael to shelve all of his tour dates for 2011 and reschedule them for next year.
