After decades spent headlining the biggest festivals around the world, MetallicaDownload will finally be headlining one that they can call their own. On June 23, the band will launch a two-day music and arts extravaganza at Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J., as announced on its official site today (Feb. 7).
Named Orion Music + More, the festival will contain multiple music stages for at least 22 bands and a myriad array of events that the band has termed "lifestyle elements" relating to each member's particular interests. Tickets for the event, which is being put on in conjunction with promoters C3 Presents, go on sale this Saturday (Feb. 11) for $150 for a two-day pass.
Metallica will headline both nights of the fest, playing the "Black Album" in its entirety one night and "Ride The Lightning" all the way through the other. The rest of the rather eclectic lineup announced today ranges from indie rockers like Arctic Monkeys and Best Coast to blues-rocker Gary Clark, Jr. and psychedelic pioneer Roky Erickson, as well as fellow metal bands Avenged Sevenfold.
A full list of the 16 bands announced is below.
"We've had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years," drummer Lars Ulrich said in a release. "After the most incredible of weeks ever in December 2011 celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA, bringing the spirit of that week... to a festival setting is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves."Billboard
