The Stone Roses

The Stone Roses
Download left behind the controversy that surrounded the end of their Amsterdam show on Tuesday (June 12) and made a triumphant return  (June 15) with a headline set at Sweden's Hultsfred festival.

Entering to 'Love Spreads' rather than their usual 'I Wanna Be Adored', the quartet (including drummer Reni, who sported a dreadlock wig throughout), ploughed through a 90-minute set that drew from their two albums to a small but enthusiastic festival crowd.

The band delivered a well-received set, which also included the likes of 'Shoot You Down', 'Don't Stop' and 'Ten Storey Love Song'.NME

'Fools Gold' and 'Waterfall' garnered the biggest cheers, whilst an ending of 'She Bangs The Drums' followed by an extended version of 'I Am The Resurrection' saw the band eventually unite at the front of the stage for a group bow and a hug before exiting to mass cheers.

Last night was the band's fourth comeback show ahead of a series of sell-out homecoming gigs in Manchester's Heaton Park at the end of this month, as well as a string of European festival performances. It follows a surprise comeback gig on May 23 in Warrington - which was their first performance in 16 years, and the first by the 'classic' line-up since June 1990 in Glasgow.
