"We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people," says Cowell in a statement. "DJ's are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show." Pinkett-Smith adds, "This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent."
Cowell recently presided over the debut season of the U.S. "X Factor," which crowned Melanie Amaro its inaugural winner last month. Fox renewed the show for a second season in November.
Meanwhile, "Idol" producer and XIX Entertainment CEO Simon Fuller is readying his own music competition with an international scope. "Q'Viva: The Chosen," Jennifer LopezDownload Here and Marc Anthony's Latin talent show, premieres this Saturday (Jan. 28) on Univision, and will follow on Fox a few weeks later.
