The rollout of the new old Van Halen

The rollout of the new old Van Halen continues with a video for the legendary band's new song, "Tattoo," a mid-tempo bluesy rocker that reunites David Lee Roth's playful banter-singing with Eddie Van Halen's precision riffs. Shot rehearsal-style and in black and white at the Roxy nightclub in Hollywood, the video is the first taste of new music from the band's forthcoming album, "A Different Kind of Truth," out Feb. 7.In the bare-bones video, Roth and Van Halen are joined by drummer Alex Van Halen and Eddie's bassist son, Wolfgang, who replaced original member Michael Anthony. On this track, as he did during the band's 'secret' club show in New York on Jan. 5, Wolfgang handles the higher harmonies.

Roth's age (57) doesn't seem to have slowed him down and in the video the singer dances in his usual manic style while preening for the camera. All the Van Halens can do is play and watch their frontman work the imaginary crowd.

Van Halen kicked off their comeback last Thursday night with a performance at New York's tiny Cafe Wha?; immediately after, the group announced the title and release date of its new album, as well as its 2012 North American tour dates. The group signed to Interscope Records in November, and will release "A Different Kind of Truth" with Roth as its frontman -- the first time that's happened since 1984.
