Courtney Love Download launched her first art show last night (May 2) in New York.
At the private view of the exhibition, one of the centrepieces of the show was a wedding dress onto which Love had embroidered with the words 'fuck' and 'c**t'. The Galliano dress was also stained with lipstick and featured the slogan: 'Not my c**t on my dime mother'. Flavorwire reports that the dress was originally supposed to be for Love's wedding to former boyfriend Edward Norton. The piece is not for sale.NME
The rest of the exhibition is made up of pencil, pastel and watercolour drawings by Love, many of which are accompanied by Hole lyrics, with some referencing lyrics by Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins.
The show, called And She's Not Even Pretty, opens to the public today (May 3) at the Fred Torres Collaborations gallery. Speaking to the Huffington Post about the exhibition, Love said: "I don't know when I'll do this again. [But] if this works with me, there are gonna be a whole lot of other ones." The show also features a drawing of Love's friend Gwyneth Paltrow amongst the 45 pieces on display.
Earlier today, it was revealed that Courtney Love has not had control of Kurt Cobain's image since 2010. The Fix claims to have obtained documents that show Love agreed to step down as acting manager of the business responsible for Cobain's publicity rights, End of Music LLC, after receiving a $2.75 million loan from the trust fund of the pair's daughter Frances Bean in 2010.
According to the report, this gave 19-year-old Frances Bean control of the publicity rights for the Nirvana icon's name, likeness and appearance until Love repays the money.
